Narratives of Emotion in Story-Driven Video Games
Stories have always been connected to emotions. Whether in film, literature, poems or theatre, they all explored emotions in a certain way. However, videogames have risen up to be a new form to discuss topics such as emotions. This tutorium explores how story-driven games depict emotions. The student is encouraged to think outside of the box through not only analysing texts but also analysing what each game has to offer such as the environment, music, pacing, stylistic choices, voice acting, visual symbolism, and mechanics. Each game has different aspects therefore different narratives of varied amounts of emotions can be observed such as regret, love, grief, and empathy.
