Longing for Home: Exploring Nostalgia Across Media

This course explores how literature, visual arts, and film represent home, nostalgia, and belonging. In a chaotically unpredictable world, many of us can no longer define what home is or where it lies. We move across countries, sometimes involuntarily, or watch familiar places transform, creating new identities while still longing for the places we call home.

We will examine the affordances of 3 media, the possibilities and limits they offer for expressing such elusive experiences, and compare how they shape our understanding of home. Drawing on intermediality and cultural studies, participants will develop critical questions and analyse concrete works without privileging one medium over another, discovering how different examples produce different meanings of home and shared sense of belonging to this universal human experience.
